Catholic School Girl

That is what came to my mind when I put together this outfit. A dark coloured floral skirt with a crisp white shirt and a knit jumper, what else do you need to look like a Catholic school girl?

Anyhow, I didn't know what happened this morning, it was as if tireness hit me like a train. I could barely wake up bubbly and all ready to go like usual. Then I forgot my bicycle helmet. I was almost at uni until I crossed path with another girl without a helmet then my brain told me something's missing with that girl, it clicked, and I almost fell off my bike. So I ended up walking to uni with my bike. The good thing is I ran into Nicola on the way, we chatted while walking so it lessen the awkwardness of me pushing the bike.

My day ended (almost) more orderly than it started.

Just another short note, this skirt make me miss mom... who bought it for me. I love you mom, if you ever read this. :)

Locked out

I am terribly sorry for the lack of updates for weeks. The fact is, I had been packing since the last post, then I got on the plane and head back to Christchurch, with my parents, uncle, aunt and a little cousin coming along for a 2 weeks holiday. And in the midst of that, uni started again. In other words, there were text books that needed to hunt for, supplies that I needed to top up.

Whilst I tried to bring everything I need from Malaysia (considering the gigantous luggage limit we have since the six of us are travelling together), I failed. But 0 week, week one and week two had been going well for me. I bought a vintage-look bike that should arrive later this week, along with simply gorgeous rattan basket with a handle, mudguards so I can ride across the fields and locks to prevent thieves. I also got a multifunction printer, a sony voice recorder and some pretty rattan storage boxes for my piles of clothes.

Oh and note for the title of this post, we got locked out. Yes, everyone in the house (Yvonne, me, Vincent - our new Malaysian tenant, and Steve - our new Taiwanese tenant) got locked out because the front door's door knob decided that it is going to retire while everyone is not home. I had to climb in through the windows to unlock the doors. But it didn't stop Yvonne and I from going out for a dinner I craved for, and a lil' shopping for our little home. :) I had Royal Roast, it was delightful, it made me full and happy. Yvonne had some thai noodle soup from Poppy Thai, they look as good as they taste. Yum.*

Note: Outfit shots would probably start as soon as I have time to take photos of myself. Ha! I am totally bummed that I did came out with new cute outfits but not taking any shots plainly because I was so busy. Sad.* :(

Yvonne's Noodles Soup

The new clothes storage! I love the cloth bag that we can actually take out for a wash in case it gets dirty. >

My much-craved-after Royal Roast...hmm...yum*

And that's a nice family photo we took when mom and dad was around :)

Road Trips and Paper-thin Dresses

Oh laziness has certainly got the better of me. After all, it is my holiday, I should be relaxing and bumming around like my cousin, Shaun. I guess setting priorities and to-do-lists kills any holiday, regardless of the fun-ness in the personality. Kills!

I had only had 2 road trips since I was back, and one is just short, but not any less valuable. First was the one to Corine's place in Sungai Petani. She got married when I was still in NZ and I think she looked gorgeous in her photos (even though she thought she looked like the she-males from Thailand). So she's pregnant with baby girl Elie now and waiting for the big day! I think the road trip was just so nice.

I had to take one day off from work because her new place is an hour drive away. The weather was perfect, cloudy with no rain, a treasure in this season (unlike today, we were sure the sun was trying to burn off our skins). Here are some photos I took on the way to and back from Sg. Petani. I forgot to snap some with Corine because we were busy catching up. Yikes a doodle!

We also visited Pei Wen who lives in the Beverly Hills of Sungai Petani and she took a break from her Twilight frenzy to hang out and chat with us. My babe!

Penang Bridge

The second trip was the one to KL with mom, dad and Yvonne. We headed to Tambun for breakfast with Uncle Eddie and his family and turned back to Penang since daddy forgot his whole pile of clothes to bring. Lame-o! But the trip was good enough, I got my dream plaid shirt and a pull over sweater from Zara. Zaraaaa! You're amazing~ Come to Penang. Pretty pretty pleaseeeeeeeeeeee~

Road Trip!!! Cheers~

Daddy's animated conversation...about bikes.

Sue Lynn hates to see me go. :(

Mom's posh Yves Saint Laurent's sunnies!

Amazing view~

I finally charged up my camera's batteries and took a couple of photos of the dress I wore tonight. We went to the mall for Japanese food and window shopped for a while. It was nice to have all my funky cousins around for a couple of hours. Ting is still downstairs with Yvonne watching telly. I think they are both too scared to sleep after a ghost story marathon just now. Hehe. Eeek!

My paper thin red dress gave dad a scare. He thought I was a ghost because he was drunk and heard Yvonne talking to someone in the TV room (he assume it was me) but then he saw me upstairs. To cut the long story short, he ask me who was it downstairs if I am here. I smiled. He almost fell off the stairs. Scardy cat!

Mom's

It's mother's day this week...she went to bed like any other ordinary night. By ordinary, it meant with an empty house, all her children were not by her side, scattered across the globe, the comfort of knowing them having better education was overwhelm by the fact she no longer can open the doors of their bedroom and sneak a peek at her three sleeping children.

Her husband lied at her side, snoring away as usual, her eyes were as heavy as her heart...

Then there was a sound of her cooking, a mother at the stove, stirring away some yummy dinner waiting for her children to return home. Her cooking had always worked the magic, the trick of getting the children home in time for dinner. And it worked, she can hear the slamming of the heavy wooden front door in the midst of the sizzle of the food in her pan. Ian came in and slipped his head out behind the door frame, with a big grin on his face, his signature grin that makes his eye shrink to a thin line. "What's cooking mommyyy..." He said with his clingy voice, this boy had never grew out of his love for mom. She smiled and signalled him to come on in to the kitchen. He just stood at the door and smiled.

Whoosh, she woke up in the dark, even more conscious than she is in the day. Realising that Ian is half a globe away, she could barely calm herself down. But the tiredness of her body after a long day at work drove her back to sleep.

She walked into the television room, the best room for afternoon naps in the heat of the day. The fan was making the sound as it cut through the hot air. Eva was lying on sideways on the couch, as she always did after college. She would just watch television until she falls asleep and the scent of the dinner cooking would wake her up. Mom knows her best. Her routine which does not involve revision had always worried her. She walked into the room, her daughter on the couch breathing steadily. Mom stooped down beside her, and put her arms around her daughter who used to be so small when she was born prematurely, now a young lady, even taller than mom herself.

Whoosh, she shrieked herself awake again. She couldn't hold it back, the thought sipped in like water in the flood, her children were no longer by her side, and tears dropped from her weak eyes.

She is my mom; and I am not by her side. I am so sorry, mom. No matter how bad a present I had bring to her for her special days, I realize now that the presence is more precious than anything else, just being with her means the world to her, and to me too.

Thank you for giving me your eyes, your nose, your smile, your hands...your love, your time and every shining moment of my life.

miss you much

It's weird. I sit here waiting for the dawn. I just saw it off Grey's Anatomy, "Why do I keep hitting myself with a hammer?...because it feels sooo good when I'm not". I like the sound of it. It reminds me why do I torture myself with taking 3 majors in the first year of a real university (not some crappy pre-U tuition-like college) in a foreign country, living off with no friends using my second language as a mean of communication. No friends. Unless you count my sister.

Except you can't, at least not now, because she is off fishing in some cold place. So, it's just me. Alone. With no possitive human contact. It's just the internet, television, some nice books, some not so nice book, some really bad books, some old thick library books, a bed, a kitchen with so much food that it can last me throught World War Three if it happens now and me. Sounds like crap eh. My first holiday in Christchurch.

So what if the dawn appears now. I don't know... It seems like it doesn't matter so much to me anymore. Not like when I was back home. Like how it matters to me that the little yellow flowers flood the fronts of the house, and only our house after the rain. It only mattered because it made daddy smiled and force me to go out and take some pictures with him. So what if the dawn appears now. It doesn't matter... not like it did when I was looking down waiting for the light behind his curtain to light up.

What if it rains... There is no more sound of the basketball bouncing in the court. In fact, there is not even a court. What if it rains... I don't get to drive you guys home in my car. Because the car...it is sold now. So what if I cry... I don't have your arms to fall back to... Because I am here. What if I am sad... I don't get to see Joshua and forget about the whole big mass of mess. So if we see new moves on the TV, we don't dance anymore.

I miss home. I miss you. Perhaps I should not look back so much if it makes me sad, but how can I not when I can only find my home and see familiar faces looking back.

Then I realise... when I understand that, I don't need bad times to help me recognise the good ones.

Buckets of misses,

Love unconditionally

I just figured this out in bed. Beside me was my cousins, the people whom I grew up with running around the village in grandma's house, the place where we got lost and I started crying and they all cried along. I realised that I so love them, and it surpassses the diferences after we grew up. No matter what we are doing now, what we will be doing in the future. When we are together we are just a bunch kids who laugh out so loud its almost vulgar.

I can't even see the time that we might grow old and be too business like. I guess beyond the things that, we have the bunch of "dude, where's my car" blurrness in us, and we shared oh so many memories that are impossible to share with other people.

I love you guys. Let's do the sleepover thing more often. LOL.

The Davidsons

Dearest readers, so sorry for not updating this blog. It must be real bad to let you guys see the same page every time you click on this link. Well, I've been kind of busy. Since now I have to work 9-6 everyday - well, almost, and still hanging strong to my usual activities. Then, of course, Aunty Phaik came to visit, 10 days...it's one of her shortest trip back here. I'm missing my cousins so badly now...

It was really nice and warm and enjoyable and homey to have the house crowded with people, plus a baby running around shouting "BON!" at every Chinese he sees. I'm so in love with these guys that I have to dedicate this post to writing about my relatives.

We have been having meals together and spending so much time together that the house seems so empty. I just love having them around. I miss the noise, the shopping, staying up till late at night, watching loads of good movies, laughing our heads off, chatting in the kitchen, eating non-stop, dancing like crazy people with Emily, talking about movies, wars, guns and stuff with Shauny and bargaining like a tigeress scaring everybody. AND flying the young and crazy around in mummy's RAV.

Aunty Phaik Ying is so sweet and nice that I don't really mind sacrificing my room for them and we're not really so uneasy around Uncle Mark now that we have all grown up and have less problems forming a proper English sentence. Seeing them almost felt like taking English exams when we were small. It was great fun having Emily around, we get to shop almost everyday and I get off days to go out with Aunty and family. It's so different from the last time they came back. Shaun definitely had grown quite a bit. And I just have to admit that he has good taste on movies! I really enjoyed his company for the whole 10 days. Andrew was a darling. Still as adorable when we first met, such a sweet smile he has. Ethan is a really cool baby. Even though he called me Bon for the first 9 days. Can't help missing him 'cause he called me "VA!" before we left for the airport.

It was really funny because by the end of the holiday everybody just can't stand Ethan calling everyone "BON", Bonnie, Gemmie and Shaun just grabbed hold of the baby and start pointing and me and keep telling Ethan "say Va" "baby, say Va." "Va.." "Va." Just when Shaun finally gave in and baby start walking off, baby mumbled..."Va." *ROAR OF LAUGHTER*. What a cool baby.

I love you guys. Oh man. Missing my cousies so badly... Wuah~~~

The truth about living.

I sat in the hospital ward, looking at the things around me, the smell of medicines and chemicals makes my stomach surged in disagreement with its surrounding. I stole a feel looks at him and tried to think of something to say, a topic to converse. He looked grumpy, now more then seventy years old, all he intended was a check-up and they detained him in this foul place for two long days. The bed was too small and too high, old and soft that he said he slump into it. His bloated tummy and weak legs didn't help in this case.

He looked at the old ladies in the opposite ward, they are older than him, so old that they sat in wheel chairs and have problems raising spoons to their mouth. Then he said to me, "It's no good for a man to live that long you know, there are just more troubles," I did not know what to say, mum just told me that the doctor said he have a couple of dark spots in his liver yesterday but forbid me to tell him because he might not be able to accept it in these circumstances. "Look that those old ladies their, they can barely walk, I don't think I wanna suffer like that." I just told him in my mother tongue, "Grandpa, don't think so much, you're just here for a check-up. We just want some assurance that you are fine. That's all. I'm sure you are."

He was discharged the next day, but all of us can see that he detests all the things in the hospital, maybe even himself. Seeing him hating the fact that he is old and sick. I didn't even notice that he had one part of his middle finger cut away, Yvonne said it was an accident when he was a carpenter long time ago. His right foot was swollen the last time I saw him at home. He is much slower now, his temper better than when he was young but not at all good. I didn't get to send him home, mum sent me to the office to sort out some paper works after we had lunch the day he was discharged.

That's my grandfather. He attempted to take his own life yesterday, not wanting to live another moment suffering. He is not the young hot-blooded man anymore, mum said he's afraid of suffering. He took all the medicine that the doctor prescribe for two weeks in one night. They sent him to the hospital after that. He is alright, the doctor said that those medicine are mainly painkillers. They made him drowsy, he could not even walk on the way home.

He does not know the truth. What's the truth about living anyway? We live, the moment when we're alive we cries our heart out, we must have known we're in for some pretty bad falls, sickness, pain, heartache, heartbreaks, some failure, a lot of fear and some abandons by the people we love. Those who realize it, we live, those who did not died, those are the babies who doesn't cry at the moment of birth. We all have our fair share of those that we don't want. Some face it with a brave spirit, some simply ignore them, some go in fear and struggle, others, in peace.

Who are we to decide in what way we are gonna face it. After all, we are just human. Weak and mild, fearful and cowardly, impulsive and agressive, helpless and lost. Who are we to decide what courage we can muster, what faith we can live on. I asked for peace, God gave me love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. I am weak but I have a shelter like no other. Everyday I would look out my window, see the world outside of me. They who don't have God, live in fear, confusion, troubled by their past, troubled by their lack of self control, regret in their lack of kindness to others only when they need kindness, hunger for gentleness in a situation of hostility. What they look for, they could not find.

My God, is big, so good, and mighty. But in these moments I can just sob to Him. "God, have mercy on them! Bring them life, don't You see that they are suffering without You. Everyday of their life, every step of their way, they take it in confusion. Father, have mercy on them." He said, "They have to ask. For Me."

:idle day:

Just after Tort paper...*~ I didn't get enough sleep again...feel like had been walking around with a heavy head. Ma~ I think I need sleep. So this will be another idle day. Came home and saw my room all cleaned up and the windows are open. I so love the tree outside my house. It look so green. Maybe I should give him a hug someday. For being such a sweetheart everytime I come home.

It must be really nice to be the tree. It's all big and green already. Mom and dad always think I'm a special kid, you know? I'm really proud of it. They used to fetch me around so I go blabbing all the way in the car. They always start with "How's your day, honey?" And the conversation will soon turn to something else. I don't think I'm one of those super genius but I know I'm different. I may not realize it but I had interest in almost everything.

And now I'm wondering how I would really like someone like myself. I guess people would really appreciate others who are really similar to them. Like how I wish my children will be as curious as I was, not curious in a way like those scientist and all those. But curious enough to read and think and explore. Then I realize no one can raise a kid to be exactly like herself, no matter how hard she try, it would only ruin the kid. That's how my parents raised my I guess. They gave me so much room to grow.

I read Andrew Matthew's book in my preteen years, started reading since my lower primary. I think I began my collection of books in my higher primary years, of course most of my old books are given away already. I was suddenly amazed by how every part of my childhood seemed to be carefully planned. Not only by my parents. By my heavenly Parent too.

I could hardly remember having any problems in my language classes, English especially. I learned idioms when my sister did. And Sir David seemed to pop out of no where and fit right in there in my younger years. Then there was British Council and the part-time job and all the small small things. I actually enjoyed learning.

Of course there was all those traveling...all 3 children in my family have our fair share of traveling. We can barely remember our 1st flight. Australia, Bangkok, United States, Taiwan... The world opened up to me like a big book with tiny prints all over it. The exposure is priceless.

I'm just suddenly so thankful. I'm happy to be blessed. In everything, I will give thanks.

So that's what they do in the annual dinner...

Well, I found this off dad' camera too. Happens to have some funny pics that caught my eye, just thought of sharing some scraps of my life with my readers. My parents work for an insurance company and every year they get to attend the annual dinner, and people just get to dress up, have fun and all - the insurance people way.

1. First of all, they dig out all their most extravaganza outfits and pick one of the most...er...unique ones.

2. Then they dress up nicely, with all the hairdos and make ups. For my mum, I thank God she stick to the basic black.

3. Oh yea, look at that guy in the picture, he's from the astro singing contest right? Well, they got him to perform there. No big deal though but it amazed me that they would get a TV icon to perform.

4. And they sit around taking photos with girls who are half their age. Just kidding, that's my dad with his colleague's daughter.

5. And they had some female performers as well. Though I can hardly see her face under all those make ups..

6. OOoo...look at that blue eye shadow. O.O"

7. And another TV person. I can still remember this lady in the cartoon outfit doing that commercial.

8. There you go, this is the true reason why people go, for a dozen of trophies ^^. Proud of you guys, mom and dad.

That's all for now, I still have some photoes to upload but maybe tomorrow kay? Still have some assignments to do. Love y'all.

cruel wishlist

I had another session with my mom. I didn't call it an arguement 'cause I stayed quiet. She asked me what do I want. Well, here's my wishlist.
1. I want a Christian family. Whatever I went through could have been the struggle of my forefathers and not mine.
2. I want an understanding Christian parents who knows what I want.
3. I want parents who can sceam with me when I'm happy and not tell me that I'm being immature.
4. I want a father that stay faithful in his marriage.
5. I want a family free from the curse of adultery. Not up to me to bear the burden so my children will stay pure.
6. I want a home free from statue that brought me nightmare.
7. I want a new cellphone which my dad buy for me. Not a cheap meal for my good results in major exams.
8. I want people to give me directions when I am lost. Not to make me more confuse.
9. I want them to stop telling me I am responsible for my life. I need guidance, not burden.
10. I want another part time job, which will help me make money so that I can get things that I want.
11. I want to be someone who doesn't need to get a part-time job because my parents refuse to help me out.
12. I want to better manage my finance.
13. I want to feel home when I come home, not a big house with conflicts.
14. I want to babble to my parents about my day, I want them to listen amusingly like they were when I was five.
15. I want parents that don't talk so matter-of-fact-ly.
16. I want to be able to tell my parents my exam dates because I know they will be there to give my all the moral support I need. Not myself making up a mental picture.
17. I want an mp3 which is not a free gift from the insurance company which my parents work for.
18. I want a hug when I am crying. Not "what esle do you want from me?"s.
19. I want dad to say "daddy will be there no matter where u want to go in the future.", not "daddy was too poor to even have the luxury of dreaming, why couldn't you understand."
20. I want parents who would be there whenever I need them to fetch me. Not forget to pick me up after tuition classes.
21. I want a mom who is smart enough to not blame me when there is no fault at all.
22. I want a mom who can take a discussion civilisedly. Not raise her voice and proclaim her misfortune.
23. I want to be not crying right now.
24. I want all these to not happen.
25. I want to turn to Jesus when I am happy. Not when I am broken and in tears. I don't mind turning to Him. But I don't want the heartbreak.
